Are you here to experience life or to think about it?

If you're like me, you're mostly living in your head, thinking a lot:

How could that play out for me? How can I be happier? How should I do this "correctly"? Will that be the right choice for me? What if I fail? I screwed up yesterday (+ 100 extra discouraging thoughts). How are they doing this? And why am I not doing this? Tomorrow I will do this and that. And so on…

Thinking mode. A lot of how questions. A lot of putting myself into the past or the future.

And we're damn lucky to have this capability of memory and imagination! But it can also be a pain in the *ss. Mainly because of the quote in the image: we are not fully experiencing life when we're thinking.

Experiencing vs Thinking

Do you also FEEL life in the moment?

Are you EXPERIENCING it to the fullest or is thought quickly taking over and coming up with the next desire, some critique or a fear of losing the current experience?

Are you getting out of your head regularly?

Experiencing life means getting a much richer flavor of life, more intense which brings depth to your life. More depth in your life means getting more out of life which will contribute to your wellbeing and happiness.

If you don’t really know how, here some insights to get started.

Brain training

As with everything I write about, you can train yourself in this skill (becoming better in experiencing life rather than thinking about it).

Mindfulness is one of those tools that can significantly increase the experiencing part in your life 😇. Mindfulness is the awareness of the present moment without judging it. Meditation is the deliberate practice to develop mindfulness.

Do you consciously work on you present moment awareness? Or is life passing by and you wonder where time is going?

Tips & Practice

If you want to know more about cultivating your experience-muscle and getting more mastery over your mind, check out the Events page on my website. I regularly host an online meditation series 😊.

Tip of the day: take 10 to 60 seconds now to just be. Don't do anything. Just experience the now. If you like, you can close your eyes. What do you feel in your body? How's your breath? Which sounds can you pick up? If a thought comes into your mind, don’t do anything with it and bring your focus again to your senses or your breath.

Wishing you a lot of wonderful experiences 🤩.
