Your Habit Tracker. Enjoy!

 

We know what we need to do but we don’t do what we know.

We know for example that moving more or exercising more often is better for us, but even with this knowledge, we usually don’t do as much as we’d like. Or we know that eating less sugar and fast food is good for us, yet we don’t manage to skip those crisps, cookies, fries or burgers as often as we want.

Why is that?

People are inherently lazy and we prefer to choose the path of least resistance, in the moment. That’s why it’s so hard to get up from the sofa after a hard day’s work to hit the gym or go for that run. Sitting in the sofa gives less friction that getting up and go suffer, even though you know you will feel better afterwards.

Or maybe you recognize yourself in this situation: you might have had a moment of inspiration and decided to change your life for the better. You felt motivated and it worked pretty well for some time, until it didn’t. Before you knew it, you slipped back into your old routines.

And that’s the trap of motivation: it comes and goes. It’s not a reliable source for successful behavior change.

So we need something more, something that will make the behavior for the most part automatic, meaning we will not have to put effort in starting it. And that’s where habits come in!

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

  • creates accountability for yourself,

  • visualizes progress which is a great motivation booster,

  • and makes it easier to recognize and celebrate your successes which is crucial to build momentum.
